How do I apply for a pistol permit?
Individuals may apply for a pistol permit by coming to the Sheriff's Office and completing an application. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Applicants must have valid picture identification at the time of the application. Applications take approximately five to seven working days to process. Handgun, Concealed Handgun, and other permit applications can be found online as well.
How much does a pistol permit cost?
The cost is $5.00 per permit. Applicants may obtain five permits per approved application.
How much does it cost to get my fingerprints taken for a job?
The cost for fingerprint cards are $10.00. Fingerprints are taken Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
How did I get selected for Jury Duty?
Though your Jury Duty notice is mailed by the Sheriff's Office, your name is selected randomly and sent to us from the Clerk of Court's office. Your name may have been selected from Division of Motor Vehicle files, tax records or other documents.
How can I get excused from Jury Duty?
The Sheriff's Office cannot excuse anyone from Jury Duty. A judge is the only one who may excuse someone from Jury Duty. A person 72 years of age or older may automatically request to be excused from Jury Duty, if they wish.
How do I obtain an Ex Parte (restraining) order?
In emergency situations, an ex parte may be issued by a Magistrate.
During regular business hours, an ex parte may be obtained through the Clerk of Court (Civil Division).
Once the ex parte order has been issued by the appropriate judicial official, the Sheriff's Office attempts immediate service.
How do I obtain an involuntary commitment order?
An involuntary commitment is not issued by the Sheriff's Office. Commitment orders are issued by a magistrate or other judicial official. Once the order has been received by the Sheriff's Office, immediate service will be attempted. Once served, the individual is transported by local law enforcement to the nearest medical/mental health facility for evaluation by qualified medical/mental health personnel. After evaluation, if medical/mental health personnel determine that the individual is to be committed, the Sheriff's Office will provide transportation to the designated mental health facility.
How do I notify the Sheriff's Office about criminal activity?
To notify the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office of any suspected criminal activity, you may dial 911 in an emergency situation. For suspected on-going criminal activity or illegal drug activity, you may contact the Sheriff's Office at (252) 946-7111 or Crime Stoppers at (252) 974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up a $1000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or a recovery of stolen property or illegal narcotics. All information received through Crime Stoppers is anonymous. Inmates can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays. Inmates with a last name beginning with A-M on
Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Inmates
with a last name beginning with N-Z on Sundays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A valid ID is required to enter the Detention Center.
What items are inmates allowed to receive?
Inmates can receive items on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Intake Office located across from the Magistrate's Office in the Court House.
