On August 31, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Lawrence Ginn, 46 years of age, and his wife Brandy May Ginn, 34 years of age, of 167 Hunters Glen Road in Washington.  They were charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

There arrest stem from Investigators stopping a vehicle that left from a residence that is involved in the distribution of cocaine and marijuana.  K-9 Elza alerted on the vehicle for the presence of an odor of a controlled substance.  Investigators searched the vehicle and found marijuana in Lawrence Ginn’s pocket and cocaine in the glove box.

They were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,500.00 secured bond.

On October 20, 2009 at approximately 7:38 a.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to 179 Clark Court in Grimesland, NC in reference to a report of a person lying on the ground.  Upon arrival, Deputies located Billy Ray Clark, age 52, of Sticks Road in Washington, on the ground motionless.  Clark was wearing jeans and no shirt.  EMS was contacted and Clark was transported to Beaufort County Hospital.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, conducted interviews, and collected evidence.  Clark was later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital where he died. 

          An autopsy was conducted to determine Clark’s cause of death.  The final autopsy results were received by the Sheriff’s Office on July 19, 2010.  The autopsy results identify complications of blunt force trauma to the head due to assault as the cause of death.  Hypothermia was also indicated as another significant condition.

          Based on information collected during the investigation, a Beaufort County Grand Jury indicted Donald Gray Silverthorne, age 46, of 179 Clark Court in Grimesland on August 23, 2010.  Silverthorne was charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of Billy Clark. 

Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, Silverthorne was apprehended at a residence on North Carolina Highway 43 South in Grimesland on August 30th.  Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Silverthorne at approximately 2:30 p.m.  Silverthorne was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On August 27, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Charles Allen Midyette, 45 years of age, 598 Middle Street in Aurora.  Midyette was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Midyette’s arrest stemmed from Investigators conducting a traffic stop on Midyette.  Investigators searched Midyette and found a quantity of marijuana and a marijuana smoking pipe.

Midyette was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,000.00 secured bond.

On August 28, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants on Derek Levon Harris, 31 years of age, of 2656 Highway 171 in Washington.  Harris was charged with four counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine , Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Habitual Felon.

Harris’ arrest stemmed from Investigators making a purchase of cocaine and marijuana from Harris while Harris was out on bond for Trafficking in Cocaine.

  Harris was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $75,000.00 secured bond.

On August 28, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Billy Ray Ange Sr., 59 years of age, of 248 Hodges Road in Chocowinity, Billy Ray Ange Jr., 36 years of age, of 2464 Mill Road in Chocowinity, Christine Duncan Oesterreich, 39 years of age, of 603 West Second Street in Washington, Dennis Earl Gentry, 41 years of age, of 80 Old New Bern  Road in Chocowinity and Christy Joyner Cannon, 32 years of age, of 432 Watson Circle in Bethel.

 Billy Ray Ange Sr. and Billy Ray Ange Jr. were charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting a Public Officer.

Dennis Earl Gentry and Christine Oesterreich were charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

   Christy Cannon was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

 Their arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving a Crime Stoppers Tip that drug use and drug distribution was occurring at the Sunset Lounge in Chocowinity.  Investigators established surveillance on the Sunset Lounge.  Investigators witnessed them sitting at a Picnic table located behind the Sunset Lounge.  Investigators witnessed them smoking marijuana and using cocaine.

On August 20, 2010 at 10:30 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to an unresponsive subject being transported by EMS to the Beaufort County Hospital.  Deputies and Investigators responded to the hospital where they discovered Lyndon Stilley, age 45, of Edward, NC was suffering from trauma to the head.  According to initial interviews conducted, Stilley was found in the parking lot of D and D Grocery located on Highway 33 East in Edward, NC.  Investigators believe Stilley’s injuries were caused by an assault. 

Stilley was later transported via East Care to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he passed away.  An autopsy will be conducted on Stilley.  If you have any information about this incident, please call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400.  Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1000.00 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case.  Callers do not have to give their name, only their information.

On June 15, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a registered sex offender failed to notify the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office of a change of address in the Chocowinity area of Beaufort County.  The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation and conducted interviews.

          On August 7, 2010, Investigator Rob Voliva applied for and obtained a warrant charging Timothy Lamont Davis, age 32, of Jessie Street in Chocowinity with one count of Failure To Report Change Of Address-Sex Offender.  On August 9, 2010 Davis was arrested by the Norfolk Virginia Police Department.  Davis was confined pending extradition back to Beaufort County

On July 18, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny of hydraulic jacks from a business on Terra Ceia Road in Pantego. 

Later on July 18, 2010, Deputies in the Patrol Division responded to a reported location of the stolen property on Old County Road in Belhaven.  During the investigation, Deputies seized the six stolen hydraulic jacks from a vehicle at the location on Old County Road.   The Sheriff’s Office continued the investigation and conducted interviews.  All hydraulic jacks reported stolen were returned to the owner.

          On August 4, 2010, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Francisco Javier Mares, age 22, of Old County Road in Belhaven with one count of Felony Larceny.  On August 13, 2010, Mares was arrested by the Belhaven Police Department and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $3,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis.

On April 2, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of larceny.  The victim reported that a 2002 Honda ATV was taken from a residence on Slatestone Road in Washington, N.C.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews.  During the investigation the ATV was recovered by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.   

On August 2, 2010, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained a warrant charging Ryan Austin Stalls, age 18, of Lizard Slip Road in Washington with one count of Felony Larceny.  On August 11, 2010 Stalls turned himself in to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.  Magistrate Bruce Smith released Stalls to the custody of his mother.

Just after midnight on August 7, 2010, Patrol Corporal Michael Sheppard with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling West 5th Street near Windley Road.  Cpl. Sheppard observed a Buick passenger car traveling 10 mph below the speed limit and not maintaining its lane of travel.  Cpl. Sheppard initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.  After learning that the driver had a revoked license and was wanted for an Order for Arrest out of Pitt County, Sheppard arrested the driver and located drug paraphernalia in the his pant’s pocket.  During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Sheppard discovered eight wax paper bindles containing a substance consistent with Heroin in the front passenger area.

            As a result, Cpl. Sheppard arrested Michael Ray Moore, age 40, of Tobacco Road in Greenville, NC and charged him with Driving While License Revoked, Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The front seat passenger, Kevin Collins, age 42, of Hudson Street in Greenville, was arrested and charged with Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Moore was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $4,750.00 secured bond.  Collins was held in the BCDC on a $1,000.00 secured bond.

On July 29, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an adult male had sexually assaulted two females under the age of sixteen at a mobile home park off Gilead Shores Road in Blounts Creek, NC.  The report indicated that the assaults occurred multiple times over the previous year.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews.  During the investigation, a third juvenile victim was discovered.

            As a result, Investigator Ernest Moore applied for and obtained warrants charging Wilson Edward Ham, age 30, of Ayden Golf Club Road in Ayden, NC with one(1) count of First-Degree Statutory Sexual Offense, five(5) counts of Statutory Sexual Offense Against a Person Who is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old, two(2) counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child, and three(3) counts of Disseminating Obscene Material to a Minor.

Ham turned himself in on August 10th and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Smith.

On August 9, 2010 at approximately 4:40 p.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bunyan Crossing in Washington, NC in reference to a report of an impaired driver that had driven into a ditch.  The suspect left the scene of the accident before Deputies arrived on scene.  At approximately 5:22 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a second report about the same vehicle driving recklessly on Slatestone Road headed toward Washington High School.  Both callers reported that the driver appeared impaired.

          A Patrol Deputy located the suspect vehicle on Slatestone Road and attempted to perform a vehicle stop.  The driver failed to stop and continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed.  The suspect turned onto Old Bath Highway and crossed into the left lane of travel multiple times.  The vehicle turned onto Lizzard Slip Road and then onto Slatestone Road.  The suspect vehicle stopped several times abruptly, the driver refused to obey commands to exit the vehicle and made movements that led Deputies to believe he may have a weapon.

The suspect vehicle went left of center on Slatestone Road past Everette Road and struck an SUV in the on-coming lane.  The SUV was occupied by a lone female driver.  Deputies immediately requested Rescue/EMS and accessed the condition of the suspect and victim.

After transport by EMS, Raymond Brooks Jr., age 48, was pronounced dead at the Beaufort County Hospital.  The driver of the SUV was treated and released.  The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic accident.

On July 29, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants on James Earl Moore, 42 years of age, 139 Jack Street in Washington.  Moore was charged with   Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Moore’s arrest stemmed from Investigators making a purchase of marijuana from Moore.  Moore was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured bond.

On July 29, 2010, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit executed a Search Warrant at 184 Swamp Road in Pantego.  Investigators and K-9 Elza found 250 grams of marijuana, prescription pain pills containing opium, digital scales and plastic baggies used to package marijuana.

 Investigators arrested Anthony Hopkins aka Turtle, 31 years of age, of 184 Swamp Road in Washington.  Hopkins was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Trafficking in Opium and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hopkins was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $26,000.00 secured bond.
