| On April 16, 2011, the Beaufort
County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Breaking and Entering in progress
at a residence on NC Hwy 92 East in Bath, NC. Deputies responded to the scene.
The suspect was located nearby at the White Post Store as he was trying to make
entry by breaking a window. The suspect was identified as Shawn
Dean Walker,
age 36, of Roberson Road in Washington, NC. He was transported to the Beaufort
County Medical Center for treatment of lacerations on his arms and hands.
Deputies later determined that Walker was under the influence of an impairing
substance known as “bath salts.” Deputies began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. While checking properties in the area, Deputies located a broken window at the Athens Church on White Post Road. As a result of the investigation, Deputy Chris Lewis applied for and obtained warrants charging Walker with Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering and Injury to Real Property for the incident at the store. Walker was released from the medical center and brought before Magistrate J. Mills. Walker was also charged with Inhale Toxic Vapors for his use of bath salts and held on a $1,300 secured bond in the Beaufort County Detention Center. A Criminal Investigator continued the investigation into the incident at the residence and the church. As a result, Investigator Rob Voliva applied for and obtained warrants charging Walker with Attempted First Degree Burglary and Injury to Real Property. On April 21, 2011, Walker was brought before Magistrate Smith and served with the additional charges. Walker was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on an additional $10,000.00 secured bond. On January 11, 2011, the Beaufort
County Sheriff’s Office received a report alleging that a child was given an
alcoholic beverage and physically assaulted by an adult at a home on Boyd Loop
Road in Pinetown, NC. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted

| On August 30, 2010, the Beaufort
County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Beaufort County Department of
Social Services involving a sex offense that occurred in the Blounts Creek area.
The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence and conducted
interviews. During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office received another
report involving a sex offense that occurred at the same location. On April 4, 2011, Investigator Wesley Waters presented the results of the investigation to the Grand Jury of Beaufort County. The Grand Jury returned six True Bills of Indictment charging James Edward Clemmer, age 18, of Core Point Road in Blounts Creek, NC with four counts of First Degree Sex Offense with a Child, six counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child, and two counts of Attempted First Degree Sex Offense With a Child. On April 19, 2011, Clemmer was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Bruce Smith. On April 7, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual offense involving a child under the age of 10 that occurred in the Crystal Beach community. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews. As
a result, Investigator Robert Gaskins applied for and obtained warrants
charging
James Michael Moore,
age 68, of River Road in Blounts Creek with six counts of First-Degree
Statutory Sexual Offense.
Moore was arrested on April 18th
and confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured
bond. Additional charges against Moore are possible. |

On October 15, 2010, the Beaufort
County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny that occurred on Harbor
Way in Washington, NC. The report indicated multiple items including a rifle
were stolen from a residence. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation,
collected evidence, and conducted interviews. |

On November 1, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny that occurred on Pollard Road in Chocowinity, NC. The report indicated scrap steel was stolen. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. During the investigation, Deputies discovered that the stolen steel was sold at a recycling business located in Vanceboro, NC. As a result, Investigator Ernest Moore applied for and obtained warrants charging Matthew Roughton, age 19, of Pollard Road in Chocowinity, NC with one(1) count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and one(1) count of Misdemeanor Larceny. Roughton is still at large. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Matthew Roughton, please call Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at 252-974-6400. On February 28, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alleged sexual offense involving a juvenile that resulted in the birth of a child. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and collected evidence. As a result, Investigator Robert Gaskins applied for and obtained a warrant charging Vladimir Hernandez Guerrero, age 23, of Pointe Drive in Washington with one count of Statutory Rape of a Person Who is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old by a Defendant Who is at Least Six Years Older than the Victim. Guerrero was arrested on March 31st and confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate D. Curtis. |
