On August 15, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense that occurred in Pinetown, NC. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. The victim was under the age of 13 years old.

On August 22, 2011, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging James Justin Mitchell, age 22, of Duck Creek Shore Road in Washington with two (2) counts of First Degree Rape of Child. On August 22, 2011, Mitchell turned himself in at the Magistrate’s Office where he was held on a $30,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills.

On August 17, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Larceny that occurred at a residence on Spruce Street in Washington, NC. The victim reported several diamond rings, necklaces, and earrings stolen from the residence. The victim suspected a member of a construction crew working at the residence was responsible for the theft. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

As a result of the investigation, Investigator Ernest Moore applied for and obtained a warrant charging Luis Pereda, age 25, of Tori Lane in Washington with one(1) count of Felony Larceny. On August 17, 2011, Pereda was arrested and placed in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Holmes. Some of the stolen jewelry was recovered during a search at Pereda’s residence.

On August 15, 2011 at approximately 7:26 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a break-in in progress at a residence on Mallison Harvey Road in Washington, NC. The caller gave a description of the suspect and advised that the suspect was carrying a black bag. Deputy Thomas Salinas responded to the residence and located a suspect inside that matched the description given by the caller. Salinas arrested Bernestine Guilford, age 34, of East 15th Street in Washington. A black bag containing a crowbar and cutting pliers was discovered in a closet at the residence.

Guilford was transported to the Magistrate’s Office and charged with Felony Breaking and Entering. He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Sadler.

On the night of August 12, 2011, Sgt. Charles Rose of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was patrolling in the Aurora area. At approximately 9:04 p.m., Sgt. Rose observed an occupied vehicle stationary on the shoulder of the road near Mary’s Chapel Church Road and Walker Road. As Sgt. Rose approached the vehicle to check on the occupant, the driver drove away. Rose continued to observe the vehicle in the area and noticed additional suspicious behavior before the driver fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Sgt. Rose activated his emergency equipment and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The driver made several quick turns and continued to drive at a high rate of speed. Sgt. Rose caught up to the vehicle near the intersection of Mary’s Chapel Church Road and Highway 306 South. The driver failed to stop and continued to drive erratically.

After turning onto Highway 306 then West Road, the driver stopped at a residence and exited his vehicle. Sgt. Rose approached the suspect and gave commands for the driver to stop and show his hands. The driver continued to walk toward the residence and failed to follow the commands. Sgt. Rose then tasered the suspect and took him into custody. Ammunition and a knife were discovered in the suspect’s pockets and a rifle was found in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

As a result of evidence collected during the incident, Sgt. Rose charged Donald Ray Johnson, age 57, of Mary’s Chapel Church Road in Edward with Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, Driving While Impaired, Resisting a Public Officer, Speeding 75 in 45 mph Zone, and Aggressive Driving. Johnson was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $3,500.00 secured bond.

On August 8th, 2011 at approximately 9:37 p.m., Deputy Thomas Salinas of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was patrolling the River Road area of Washington, NC. Deputy Salinas located a passenger car being operated on River Road that matched the description of vehicle involved in a suspicious activity report earlier near Brick Kiln Road. Salinas had Communications run the tag number, and he learned that the registration had an “insurance stop.” Salinas performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke to the occupants.

During the stop, Deputy Salinas noticed that the driver was overly nervous. A consent search of the car was performed. A plastic bag containing seven individually wrapped baggies of marijuana was located in the center console. As a result of information and evidence collected at the scene, Deputy Salinas arrested Ronriquez Lamont Flowers, age 24, of Vermont Avenue in Washington, NC and charged him with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Flowers was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills.

On August 8th, 2011 at approximately 12:32 a.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office assisted the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with an arrest at a license check point at the intersection of Highway 33 and Mill Road in Chocowinity, NC. Troopers had approached a vehicle operated in a suspicious manner near the check point. The Trooper discovered that the driver may be under the influence of alcohol. During a search of the vehicle, digital scales and plastic baggies were recovered. A pill bottle containing several individually packaged white, rock-like pieces consistent with crack cocaine was found near the vehicle.

As a result of information and evidence collected by the NCSHP and BCSO, Jermaine Devonne Moore, age 37, of Firetower Road in Greenville, NC was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The NCSHP charged Moore with Driving While Impaired. Moore was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,800.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills.

    On August 2, 2011, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Chevon Rodman, 33 years of age, of 152 New Hope Rd. in Washington and Nicole Charmaine White, 32 years of age, of 152 New Hope Rd. in Washington. Their arrests stemmed from investigators making undercover controlled purchases of cocaine from Rodman at their residence on New Hope Rd. Investigators conducted a search warrant at the residence and found 15 grams of cocaine, digital scales and $1,600. Both Rodman and White were arrested. Rodman was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity and three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Nicole White was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Maintain a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Rodman was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond. White was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
           While conducting surveillance on the residence Investigators conducted traffic stops on vehicles that left from Rodman and White’s residence on New Hope Rd. K-9 Elza made a positive alert on one of the vehicles. Investigators searched the vehicle and located a quantity of cocaine. The driver of the vehicle Robert Clyve Jackson, 44 years of age, of 2417 Gilead Shores Rd. in Blounts Creek and the passenger Zachary Dewayne Robbins, 18 years of age, of 324 Mouth of the Creek Rd. in Blounts Creek were both arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both Jackson and Robbins were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,500 secured bond.

Investigators conducted a traffic stop on another vehicle after it had left the residence on New Hope Rd. A passenger in the vehicle identified as James Earl Nicholson, 31 years of age, of 154 New Hope Rd. in Washington was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine and a quantity of marijuana both packaged in plastic baggies. Nicholson was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Less than ½ Ounce of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Nicholson was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond.

On July 2, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking and entering of a residence located on Beach Road in Chocowinity, NC.  During the break-in, a riding lawn mower, generator, freezer, refrigerator, washing machine, and dryer were stolen.  A Deputy responded to the scene and the Sheriff’s Office began an investigation.  

On July 7, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a Crimes Stoppers tip on the location of the stolen riding lawn mower and generator.  The items were recovered at a residence on Nelson Farm Road in Chocowinity and a suspect was identified.

As a result of information obtained during the investigation, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained a warrant charging Thomas Glenn Dempsey, age 53, of Nelson Farm Road in Chocowinity with one count of Felony Breaking and Entering and one count of Larceny after Breaking and Entering.  Dempsey was arrested on August 2, 2011 and confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $4,000.00 secured bond.

On July 13, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a four year-old child being seriously injured as a result of being thrown from a roof and hitting the side of a swimming pool at a residence on Terrapin Track in Washington, NC.  The victim had been transported to Beaufort County Medical Center by personal vehicle on July 11th and later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital with internal injuries.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, and conducted interviews.  The child was visiting an adult friend of the child’s mother at the time of the incident on July 11th.
    As a result of the investigation, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Camelia Dawn Cartwright, age 28, of Terrapin Track in Washington with one (1) count of Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury; Brandon Lee Woolard, age 28, of Terrapin Track in Washington with one (1) count of Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury; and Megan Douglas Woolard, age 27, of Highway 264 in Washington with one (1) count of Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.

On August 3, 2011, the three defendants were served with arrest warrants.  They were each held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

         On 07/29/2011, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Ashton Maurice Jones, 27 years of age, of Washington. Jones’ arrest stemmed from Investigators conducting undercover controlled purchases of Mephedrone, a white powdery substance often referred to as “Bath Salt.”
           On the date of his arrest, Jones was found to be in possession of “Bath Salt” in his hotel room at the Days Inn in Washington. Jones was charged with three counts of Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Mephedrone and Felony Possession of Mephedrone. Jones was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
