On October 21st, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault that occurred at a home on Highway 33 East in Aurora. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews. During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office collected information related to a prior sexual assault report involving the same suspect in 2004. On August 3rd, 2009, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon presented the investigation to the Beaufort County Grand Jury. Six True Bills of Indictment were returned against Edward Lee Lewis, age 48, of Highway 33 East in Aurora. Lewis was charged with six counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. He was arrested on August 28th and brought before Magistrate Holmes. Lewis was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 secured bond.

|
On August 26, 2009, Investigators with the
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Keith Langley and Judy
Langley of 3687 Brick Kiln Road in Greenville.
They were charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine
and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Their
arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving information that Keith Langley was
going to deliver a quantity of drugs to a designated location at a certain
time. Investigators conducted
surveillance and approached Judy and Keith Langley when they arrived at the
designated location. Keith Langley was
searched and found to be in possession of four bags of cocaine. Investigators searched the vehicle Keith and
Judy Langley were operating.
Investigators found a small canister containing cocaine residue and
plastic baggies used to repackage cocaine. Judy and Keith Langley were transported to the magistrates office where Magistrate Jasper Mill’s released them under a under a $5,000.00 unsecured bond. |

On August 25, 2009, Investigators with the
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Tony Oliver, 44 years of
age and Kendra Nash aka Candy, 38 years of age, of 799 Hodges Road in
Chocowinity. They were charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver
Marijuana, Sell of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Their arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving a Crime Stoppers tip that Oliver and Nash are selling marijuana from their residence located at 799 Hodges Road. Investigators responded to their residence and conducted a search. Investigators found approximately 450 grams of marijuana and digital scales. Oliver and
Nash were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000.00

On August 25, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants on Derrick Tremell Columbus, 32 years of age, of 101 King Eternity Street in Washington. Columbus was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine within 1000 feet of a school, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Resisting a Public Officer. Columbus’ arrest stemmed from Investigators making undercover purchases of crack cocaine from Columbus. On 08-24-2009, Investigators attempted to serve arrest warrants on Columbus. Columbus fled on foot from a Lincoln Navigator he was driving. Columbus left a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana inside the Lincoln Navigator. Sheriff’s Office needs information from the public to solve crime On August29, 2009 at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired at Lil’ John’s Club at 6307 Highway 17 South in Chocowinity N.C. Deputies responded to the location and discovered a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. More than 80 people were at the property when Deputies arrived. The Deputies and a State Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol secured the scene and called for additional assistance from off-duty Deputies and Investigators. Investigators processed the crime scene and began an investigation. The deceased man has been identified as
Neal Wave Whitney, age 21, of Taylor Road in Chocowinity. The investigation is on-going and the
Sheriff’s Office needs information from the public to solve this crime. If you have any information about

On August 11, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a break-in on Highway 33 East in Blounts Creek N.C. The victim reported that an outbuilding had been entered and an ATV had been stolen. The Sheriff’s Office collected evidence and began an investigation. On August 12th, Deputy Royce Hamm was patrolling the Edward area and observed an ATV being operated on the roadway that matched the description of the stolen ATV. Deputy Hamm attempted to stop the ATV using his emergency equipment, but the ATV fled into the woods. Deputy Hamm searched the wooded area and located the stolen ATV off Highway 33 near the intersection with Highway 306 South. After conducting interviews and reviewing evidence, Deputy Hamm applied for and obtained warrants charging Robert Earl Blount III, age 19, of Bonnerton Road in Edward, N.C. and Ryakeem Devon Blount, age 18, of Ideal Way in Edward, N.C. with Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny. Robert Blount was also charged with Misdemeanor Flee to Elude Arrest. Ryakeem Blount was arrested on August 19th by the Aurora Police Department. He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $2500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills. Robert Blount is still at large. On August
9, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Breaking and
Entering and Larceny from BJ’s Store
in Belhaven, NC. The Sheriff’s Office
began an investigation, conducted interviews, and collected
evidence. During the investigation, a search warrant
was obtained and executed at a residence on Sidney Road. Items taken during the break-in were
recovered during the search. On August 14, 2009, Investigator
Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging David Lee Moree, age 27, of Sidney Road in Belhaven, NC with one count
of Felony Breaking and Entering, one
count of Felony Larceny, and one
count of Injury to Real Property. Moree turned himself in at the
Magistrate’s Office on August 14th.
He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $2,500.00

On July 27, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office
responded to an armed robbery report at Travel Store #2, located on River Road
in Washington. The Sheriff’s Office
began an investigation and conducted several interviews. On August 10, 2009, the store was robbed
again and three suspects were apprehended(see attached press release for more
information). During the investigation
of the August 10th robbery, Investigators collected evidence related
to the July 27th robbery. On August 20, 2009, Investigator
Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Lamar Antonio Hawkins, age 17, of St. Johns Church Road in
Washington with one count of Robbery
with a Dangerous Weapon for his involvement in the robbery on July 27th. Hawkins was served on August 20th while
being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on other robbery
charges. Hawkins was held on an

On August 10, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a break-in and theft that occurred at a residence on Ormond Avenue in Bath N.C. The victim reported that an outbuilding had been forcibly entered and a bicycle had been stolen. Later on August 10, the Sheriff’s Office received information on the location of the stolen bicycle. Deputy Jason Cleary responded to the location on River Road in Washington and recovered the bicycle. After conducting interviews, Deputy Cleary arrested Austin Lee Asby, age 17, of Ormond Avenue in Bath and charged him with Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny. Asby was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Smith. Charges are pending against a juvenile in the case. On August 10, 2009 at approximately 8:48 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an Armed Robbery at the River Road Mini-Mart at 2947 River Road in Washington N.C. As Deputies responded to the location, a witness that observed suspicious activity as he drove by the Mini-Mart called the Sheriff’s Office and reported that the suspects were leaving the scene in a teal blue colored car. Corporal Kasey Neal arrived at the scene and located the suspect vehicle as it pulled out onto River Road from Magnolia Drive. Cpl. Neal attempted to stop the vehicle using his emergency lights, but the suspect vehicle accelerated and failed to stop. Cpl. Neal gave followed the vehicle and was joined by other members of the Sheriff’s Office as well as the NC State Highway Patrol. The suspect vehicle fled east on River Road then north on Highway 32. Several items were thrown from the suspect vehicle as it fled. The suspect vehicle lost control as it turned off Highway 32 onto Terra Ceia Road and came to a stop in the yard of a residence. Three occupants of the vehicle then ran from the car on foot. Cpl. Neal, Sheriff Alan Jordan, and Trooper Kevin Respass were able to apprehend all three suspects after a short foot chase. As a result of the subsequent investigation, Sean Connelly Fields II, age 22, of Palm Street in Belhaven was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, and Resisting a Public Officer. Markell Devon Barnes, age 17, of Washington Street in Washington and Lamar Antonio Hawkins, age 17, of St. Johns Church Road in Washington were charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Resisting a Public Officer. On August 07, 2009, Law Enforcement Officers with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Police Department teamed up to serve arrest warrants and indictments on forty people involved in the distribution of controlled substances. The arrest warrants and indictments followed several months of undercover investigations in which the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit and the Washington Police Department made purchases of controlled substances from area drug dealers. Twenty people have been arrested so far. Beaufort County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Washington Police Officers will continue searching for the remaining suspects until they all are apprehended. On July 30, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Donald Ramon Moore aka Duck, 30 years of age, of 4260 Core Point Road in Blounts Creek, Antoinette Jenkins, 25 years of age 4260 Core Point Road and Sampson Moore, 50 years of age, of 901 Shearin Street in Rocky Mount. Donald Moore was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm by Felon. Antoinette Jenkins was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Sampson Moore was charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Marijuana. Their arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of heroin from Donald Moore. Investigators executed a search warrant at Donald Moore’s residence and found Antoinette Jenkins, Sampson Moore and Donald Moore inside the residence. Donald Moore ran from Investigators and was apprehended in his living room where a stolen loaded FireStorm 45 caliber pistol and a loaded Iver Johnson 20 gauge shotgun were found in the floor beside a quantity of heroin, cocaine and marijuana packaged for resale. Antoinette Jenkins was located in the living room. Investigators found cocaine and heroin in Jenkins pocket. Sampson Moore was located at the kitchen table where a marijuana cigarette, snorting straw, and heroin bindles were found. Investigators found an Intratec 9mm pistol and a stolen Taurus 9mm pistol under the hood of truck located in Donald Moore’s barn. Donald Moore and Antoinette Jenkins were detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 secured bond. Sampson Moore was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,500.00. Investigators arrested Donald Moore and Antoinette Jenkins in January of 2008 for Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin. Donald Moore served an active sentence and was released from prison on February 18, 2009. At the time of their arrest, Antoinette Jenkins was serving a 36 month probation sentence from when she was arrested in January 2008. On June 21, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report alleging fraud. The victim reported someone had stolen three checks and cashed the checks without her permission. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and identified possible suspects. As a result of information obtained during the investigation, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained a warrant charging Carrie Romick, age 27, of Hwy 222 in Walstonburg, NC with one count of Forgery of an Instrument, one count of Uttering a Forged Instrument, and one count of Obtaining Property under False Pretenses. George Thomas Foreman Jr, age 24, of Whichards Beach Road in Washington was also charged with one count of Obtaining Property under False Pretenses. Romick was arrested on July 28, 2009 and released on a $5,000.00 unsecured bond. Foreman was arrested on July 30, 2009 and released on a $1,000.00 secured bond. On April 11, 2009, the Beaufort
County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Motor Vehicle Break-in and
Larceny on Turkey Trot Road #1 in Washington.
A set of box speakers were taken from the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office reviewed evidence and
conducted interviews. On July 17, 2009, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and received warrants charging Jodeci Megal Boomer, age 17, of Sandpointe Drive in Washington with one count of Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle and one count of Misdemeanor Larceny.
