November 2008 Press Releases

On August 3, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny of a motor vehicle from an address in Chocowinity.  The owner reported the vehicle was stolen during the night after entering the residence and removed the keys to the vehicle.  The vehicle was later located abandoned in Chocowinity. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and a suspect was identified.
As a result of information obtained during interviews, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained warrants charging Desmond Montrea Myers, age20, of 1173 West Pantego Street in Belhaven one count each of First Degree Burglary, one count each of Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and one count of Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.  Myers was arrested on November 9th and was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secure bond.

On October 23, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking and entering and larceny that occurred at a residence on West Barr Road in Chocowinity.  The victims reported hearing noises outside their home during the night. They later discovered their garage had been broken into and items were missing.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and identified suspects. As a result of information obtained during the investigation, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained warrants charging John Garrett Mayo, age 16, of Hwy 102 in Chocowinity and William Joseph Wallace, age 18, of VOA Road in Washington with one count each of Second Degree Burglary, one count each of Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and one count each of Larceny of a Firearm.
On November 11, 2008, Mayo was arrested on these and other charges and confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond.  Wallace turned himself in on November 19, 2008 and was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond.

On September 29, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault that occurred on Windley Road in Washington.  The victim reported being assaulted in his home at gunpoint by unknown suspects.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, executed a search warrant, and conducted interviews. 
During the investigation, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized.  On November 3, 2008, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained a warrant charging Allen Garfield Swanner, age 45, of Windley Road in Washington with Felony Possession of Cocaine, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  On November 13, 2008, Swanner was arrested and issued a $5,000.00 secured bond by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

On October 28, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Larceny from Taylor Oil Company in Washington.  The company reported an employee took money while working at Travel Store #8 on West 5th Street in Washington.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews. 
On November 7, 2008, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained a warrant charging Julia Nicole Worsley, age 24, of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington with one count of Larceny by Employee.  On November 12, 2008, Worsley was arrested and issued a $2,000.00 secured bond by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

On November 12th, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained warrants charging John Garrett Mayo, age 16, of NC Highway 102 in Chocowinity with two counts of Breaking and or Entering of a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.  Mayo was arrested on November 14th and held on a $25,000.00 secured bond.

On October 28, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud from a Washington resident.  The victim reported that their credit card was used without permission after it was accidentally left at the Piggly Wiggly on River Road in Washington.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews.
On November 10, 2008, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained warrants charging Crystal Monique Smith, age 21, of Camel Drive in Washington, with one count of Misdemeanor Financial Transaction Card Fraud.  Robert Earl Tyer III, age 21, of Magnolia School Road in Washington, was also charged with one count of Misdemeanor Financial Transaction Card Fraud.  Tyer was arrested on November 12th and held on a $3,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

On March 12th, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of child abuse that occurred at a home on Highway 17 South in Chocowinity.  The victim was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital via East Care after sustaining severe head trauma.  The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation and conducted several interviews.  Medical records were also reviewed.
On November 25, 2008, Investigator Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained a warrant charging Jenny Rose Jordan, age 26, of Barnes Drive in Chocowinity, North Carolina with one felony count of Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.  Jordan was arrested on November 25th and brought before Magistrate D. Hurst.  She was held on a $2,000 secured bond.
