On November 24, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Jerry Maurice Lawrence, 37 years of age, of 304 North Shore Road in Washington.  Lawrence was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Lawrence’s arrest stemmed from Investigators executing a Search Warrant on Lawrence’s residence after making purchases of cocaine from Lawrence.  Investigators conducted a traffic stop on Lawrence prior to executing the Search Warrant.  Investigators found a Lorcin 9mm pistol in the center console of the vehicle.  Investigators searched Lawrence’s residence and found approximately six grams of cocaine, digital scales, plastic baggies used to repackage cocaine and a Jennings 9mm pistol.

Lawrence was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000.00 secured bond.

On November 24, 2009 at approximately 6:17 p.m., Deputies with the Patrol Division of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Horse Pen Swamp Road in Washington N.C. in reference to a report of subjects shooting firearms.  When Deputies arrived, they discovered that two intoxicated subjects had been shooting a rifle and shotgun in their back yard.  Deputies began an investigation and learned that one of the subjects was a convicted felon.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Sgt. Charles Rose arrested Kasey J. Melanson, age 41, of Horse Pen Swamp Road in Washington.  Melanson was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on an unsecured bond that required a custody release to a sober individual.

On September 2, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Breaking and Entering and Larceny at Midway Past and Presents Antique Shop in Bath.  The victim reported that someone broke into the business on Highway 92 East and stole multiple items.  Deputies with the Patrol Division developed a suspect and recovered the items stolen during the break-in.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews. 

On November 9, 2009 Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained warrants charging Emory Cecil Gill Jr., age 39; Robert Christopher Figgs, age 27; and Amy Hayes Meynardie, age 37, all of Ann Street in Chocowinity with one count each of Felony Breaking and Entering and one count each of Felony Larceny.

All three were served with the warrants on November 9th.  Figgs and Meynardie were each held on a $10,000.00 secured bond.  Gill was held on a $5,000.00 secured bond.

On October 28, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible Fraud in the Pinetown area.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

On November 9, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Sarah Ann Asby, age 18, of South Boyd Road in Pinetown, North Carolina with one count of Forgery of an Instrument and one count of Uttering a Forged Instrument. 

On November 9, 2009, Asby turned herself in at the Magistrate’s Office.  Asby was held on a $3,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

On July 24, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Larceny of an outboard motor from a sailboat on McCotter’s Marina Road in Washington.  On October 9th, Deputies in the Patrol Division responded to a report of suspicious persons in a boat on a canal near Cox Road in Washington.  Deputy Jason Cleary located the boat and suspicious persons near a bridge on Broad Creek Road.  Deputy Cleary identified the subjects and discovered that they were in possession of the outboard motor stolen in July.  During the investigation, Deputy Cleary seized the stolen motor and noted that the subjects had a second outboard motor.  Later on October 9th, the Sheriff’s Office received a report indicating that the second motor was also stolen from a sailboat on McCotter’s Marina Road.  Deputy Cleary then made contact with the subjects and seized the second motor.  Additional interviews were conducted as part of the investigation.

On October 28, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Joshua Matthew Crowley, age 20, of River Road in Washington with two counts of Breaking and Entering a Boat, one count of Felony Larceny, and one count of Misdemeanor Larceny for the July and October thefts.  Inv. Waters also obtained a warrant charging Justin Thomas Jones, age 18, of Spain Drive in Washington with one count of Breaking and Entering a Boat and one count of Felony Larceny for the October theft.  

OnOctober 28, 2009, Crowley was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $3,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.  On October 29, 2009, Jones turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office. Jones was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On August 6, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Larceny at a home on John Small Avenue in Washington.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews.  Items taken during the break-in were recovered from a local pawn shop.

          On October 26, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Steven Thomas Miller, age 50, of Highway 33 West in Chocowinity, North Carolina with one felony count of Breaking and Entering, one felony count of Larceny, and one count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.

          On November 4, 2009, Steven Thomas Miller was arrested by Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and held on a $25,000.00 secured bond.

On February 19, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Beaufort County Department of Social Services involving multiple sex offenses that occurred in the Pinetown area.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews.

On March 24, 2009, Investigator Jim Martin applied for and obtained warrants charging Kenneth Wayne Manning, Sr., age 56, of Germantown Road in Scranton N.C. with one count of First Degree Statutory Rape, two counts of Crimes Against Nature, two counts of First Degree Statutory Sex Offense, one count of First Degree Kidnapping, one count of Felony Disseminate Obscenity to a Minor and one count of Indecent Liberties with a Child.  Manning avoided arrest by leaving the state.  The Sheriff’s Office entered him into the National Crime Information Center’s database as a wanted person.

OnNovember 8, 2009 Manning was arrested in Huntsville, Alabama and charged with Driving Under the Influence.  He is being held without bond as part of the extradition process for the Beaufort County charges.

On November 9, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Bryce Evans, 34 years of age, of 59 Hwy. 33 West in Chocowinity, Gina Cannefax, 32 years of age, of 59 Hwy. 33 West in Chocowinity, Jessica Privett, 21 years of age, of 222 Sandhole Road in Chocowinity and Brian Jackson, 22 years of age, of 222 Sandhole Road in Chocowinity.

Bryce Evans and Gina Cannefax were charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Jessica Privett and Brian Jackson were charged with Trafficking in Heroin, Maintaining a Dwelling to Keep a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Their arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving a Crime Stoppers complaint that Jessica Privett and Brian Jackson are using and selling heroin from their residence.  Investigators conducted surveillance and witnessed Bryce Evans and Gina Cannefax visit Jessica Privett’s residence.

Investigators conducted a vehicle stop on Bryce Evans and Gina Cannefax.  They were found to be in possession of a needle containing heroin.

On October 29, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Jeremy McHargue, 33 years of age, of 41 Hudson Farm Avenue in Chocowinity.  McHargue was charged with Manufacturing Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

McHargue’s arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving complaints that McHargue is involved in the use and distribution of marijuana.  Investigators conducted surveillance and followed McHargue from his residence to residence located at 651 Hwy. 33 West in Chocowinity.  Investigators conducted a vehicle stop on McHargue after McHargue left from 651 Hwy. 33 West in Chocowinity.  Mchargue was found to be in Possession of marijuana.

Investigators conducted a search of 651 Hwy. 33 West and McHargue’s residence.  Investigators found a small indoor marijuana grow that contained grow lights, electrical timer and 19 small marijuana plants inside 651 Hwy. 33 West in Chocowinity.  Investigators found a small amount of marijuana, blue prints for Hydro grow and electrical grow lights at McHargue’s residence.

McHargue was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000.00 secured bond.

     On October 27, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Steven Ward, 54 years of age, of 224 Willy Lane in Washington and Barbara Credle, 45 years of age, of 224 Willy Lane in Washington.  They were charged with Trafficking in Cocaine by Possession, Trafficking in Cocaine by Transportation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

 Their arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer they were operating.  Canine Elza alerted on the Ford Explorer.  Investigators conducted a search of them and the Ford Explorer.  Investigators found approximately 32 grams of crack cocaine hidden under Credle’s shirt.  Ward admitted to given the crack cocaine to Credle to hide from Investigators.

Ward was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $30,000.00 secured bond.

Credle was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.
